Chest Pain

Chest pain is a symptom caused by cluster or umbrella of diseases, some are life threatening, others aren’t.  Most feared causes for chest pain are  myocardial infarction caused by Ischemic coronary artery disease,  pulmonary embolism caused by blood clot in lungs, and pneumothoraxcaused by collapsed lungs. Coronary artery disease is caused by reduced blood flow which carries nutrients and oxygen to heart muscle. This is typically caused by Atherosclerosis which is hardening and narrowing of arteries over years by different factors like increase in cholesterol plaques, high blood pressure and smoking.  Pulmonary embolism is caused by blood clots cause by migrating DVT from lower extremities to lungs.  Blood clots are often caused by hx of cancer, immobilization like being bed ridden in hospitals or hx of long flights or  family history of blood disorders. pneumothorax is caused by a collapsed lung which is often caused by gunshot or blunt trauma to chest or long history of smoking or scuba diving, pneumonia or lung cancer.  Others causes of chest pain can include but not limited to anxiety, Musculoskeletal chest wall pain, acid reflux, pericarditis, pleurisy, myocarditis, palpitations.
