Common sexually transmitted disease caused by Chlamydia trachomatis bacteria. Most common symptoms are genital pain, penile or vaginal discharge, painful urination, intermittent bleeding between periods. Complications include but not limited Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) which can causes pelvic pain, can damage the fallopian tubes, ovaries and uterus, Epididymitis which is an infection near the testicles, Prostatitis which is infection of the prostate, infertility, infections in newborns since Chlamydia can pass from vaginal canal to new born and cause blindness or Pneumonia in new born. Diagnosis is made via physical examination, history taking and urine tests. Treatment is antibiotics, Azithromycin or doxycycline.
